## The form that replaces
_the free 20-minute slot._

Four fields: the portfolio, the target role and level, the two case studies to focus on, and the one thing they want to know. Paid async reviews already sell at $87–99 with 48-hour delivery and a money-back guarantee; this is the same product with the refund built into the deadline. The €149 tier adds a 30-minute call for people who want to argue back.

What you send back

## A Loom, and a scorecard
_you can forward._

Fifteen minutes of screen recording, walking the portfolio the way a hiring manager does, then five scores with one sentence of evidence each and the single change to make first. The written part is what they paste to a friend and what makes the price defensible. The inbox sorts by nearest deadline and nudges you at half-time.

First 30 seconds **2/5** The landing page shows six thumbnails and no sentence about you. A hiring manager cannot tell what you are senior at.

Problem framing **4/5** The onboarding case opens with the drop-off number. Good. The dashboard case opens with a moodboard.

Process vs outcome **2/5** Eleven screens of process, one of outcome. Cut to three decisions and what each cost or won.

Metrics and impact **3/5** “Improved activation” needs the number, the baseline and the period. You have it in the deck; put it in the case.

Visual craft **5/5** Nothing to fix. This is not why the screens end.

**First change: one sentence on the landing page, then cut the dashboard case in half**

#### #14 — A Staff-level case study that hides its best decision on slide nine

This week's case study

Public portfolio, senior product designer, B2B payments. Shared with permission. Link and the role it was written for.

The first 30 seconds

Title, hero image, one line: “Reduced onboarding drop-off by 31%.” Then four paragraphs of company background before the problem appears.

Three problems

The decision that mattered (killing the KYC step) is on slide nine. Process screens outnumber outcomes 8:1. No mention of what did not work.

Three fixes, annotatedpaid

The rewritten opening, the three-decision structure, and where the 31% belongs. Side by side with the original, with the reasoning a hiring manager would apply.

Teardown recording + templatepaid

Wednesday's live session (44 min) and the case-study skeleton we used, as a Figma and a Notion page.

## What the weekly issue
_actually contains._

One case study taken apart: the first thirty seconds, three problems, three fixes. The problems are free, which is what gets it shared in design Slacks; the annotated fixes and the teardown recording are the paid part, which is what gets it renewed. That is the whole format, every Wednesday.

The largest product newsletter converts around four to five percent of free readers at $20 a month. You need eighty paying readers at €8, not a million free ones.

Rung four · Community

## The weekly rhythm
that keeps _members._

Design communities price from €9 for templates and a monthly call to $99 a month for a monthly masterclass, quarterly labs and a library of recordings. At €29 the product is one live teardown a week, and the retention mechanic is that someone's work is on screen every Wednesday. Members leave when they get hired; a seven-day trial and a visible hiring thread keep the next cohort arriving. ApplyForm grants and revokes access as people pay and cancel; you run the session.

Why these prices

## Numbers from
the _market._

**$87–99** what an async portfolio review already sells for

Video walkthrough, results in 48 hours, 30-day money-back. €89 with a three-day deadline and an automatic refund is the same product with the guarantee built in.

**12,000+** product mentors giving the review away on ADPList

Free is the price anchor, so the paid version has to be visibly different: a Loom, a scorecard, a deadline. The demand is not in question.

**$100–500** per session on the paid mentoring platforms

The band ADPList itself quotes for paid alternatives. A €150 mock interview with a written scorecard sits in the lower half of it.

**€9–$99** monthly range of paid design communities

€9 for templates and a monthly live session; $99 or $950 a year for a monthly masterclass, quarterly labs and 300 recordings. €29 with a weekly live teardown is the gap between them.

**4–5%** free-to-paid conversion of the largest product newsletter

At $20 a month, 18,000 paid on 377,000 free in 2023. A weekly teardown with the annotated fixes behind the paywall is the same shape at a fraction of the list.

**30 days** money-back window that is normal on paid reviews

Refund-friendly terms are standard at $87–99, and disputes on delivered written work are rare. The deadline refund is a stronger version of the same promise.

Market figures from published industry and platform data, September 2026, rounded. Your prices, volume and retention will differ.

Common worries

## “ADPList is free.
_Who pays €89?_”

The people who have already had three free sessions and are still not getting past the screen. A free slot is twenty minutes of talk; this is a recorded walkthrough, a scorecard they can act on, and a date. Keep your ADPList profile if it sends you people; put this link in its bio. The free session becomes the discovery call for the paid one.

**“Their case studies are under NDA.”**

Ask for public or password-protected work, and say in the form that you review what they choose to share and hold no obligation beyond the reply. The files stay theirs. Never repost a member's work in the newsletter without written permission, and say so there too.

**“Design hiring is soft right now.”**

It is: frontend and mobile demand is down and the management layer is squeezed. Fewer roles means more people polishing the same portfolio for longer. Keep the three-day promise, sell the quarterly plan, and write nothing about outcomes: no “you'll get hired”.

**“What if they want a refund after the Loom?”**

The Loom and the scorecard are on the page by the deadline; that is the deliverable, and disputes on delivered written work are rare. For consumers in the EU the 14-day withdrawal right applies, so disclose it in the form and ask for consent to start straight away.
